Chinese Horse Wei Dynasty

Horse made in a round shape standing on its four legs located on a small base. The modeling of the horse presents a realistic and detailed character anatomy that can be seen in the face and the riding clothes in which it is dressed. Its stylized demeanor stands out, and its posture that gives the piece great expressiveness due to the opening of the front legs

which denote a movement and therefore the performance of an action. This type of piece used to be part of the grave goods of the Wei dynasty, since the horse was a symbol of rank and belonging to the upper echelon of the social hierarchy. The piece still preserves vestiges of the original polychromy applied as a slip on the clay piece and not with a glaze. Visible especially, the polychromy, in the riding clothes and in some horse harness.

The Wei dynasty ruled northern China in the period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589), being the first of the northern dynasties. This period followed the fall of the Jin dynasty and was a time when southern and northern China had different governments. Although the north was already in the hands of the Wei dynasty since the year 386, the start date of this historical period is conventionally placed in the year 420, when the refugee Jin dynasty ended, being replaced by the first of the southern dynasties. , Liu''s song.

The ceramics of the Southern and Northern Dynasties period are a continuation of the Three Kingdoms and Six Dynasties period, a time when there was an important development of ceramic art from the tradition of the Han period. Funerary figurines decorated with slips continue to be mainly made, but the techniques are notably perfected, as are the pastes, the slips, etc.

The piece includes Thermoluminescence Test. QED LABORATORY - FRANCE
