Lot: 756
Italian School 17-18th Century St Michael

Polychrome and gilded wood carving. It shows Saint Michael the Archangel in the traditional way dressed as a Roman, wearing armor, helmet, sword and shield. With his right leg he steps on the torso of a demon, dark-skinned and winged. Vitreous paw eyes. Great detail work.

The relative sweetness of the features and representation is reminiscent of the work of the Italians Francesco Picano (1677-1743) and Lorenzo Vaccaro (1655-1706).

However, the iconography of the work also had a boom in Spain, where it was Some similar examples are known in terms of composition and treatment that are reminiscent of the work of Luis Salvador Carmona (1708-1767) or Luisa Roldan "La Roldana" (1652-1706).
