"Political and social memory in Spain in the 80s". Set of fourteen photographs taken with a Nikon FM camera and Kodak Vericolor II film.
Revealed in 2021 from the original negatives on Fujifilm quality dry photo paper.
Unique copy.
Extraordinary set made up of fourteen photographs, of graffiti with a political, social, protest and opinion content, a graphic reflection and visual chronicle of the moment in Spain in the 80s of the 20th century.
Each photograph is a unique document that shows the use of public walls as a support to express messages of political propaganda, messages that they want to get across to the citizen, social criticism and opinions that, due to their content, did not have space in the media. The graffiti in the photographs that we present were taken in Madrid, in the Pilar neighborhood, Carabanchel Alto, Carabanchel Bajo and the Valencia highway in 1980, 1981 and 1982.
These are the years of political transition in Spain, in which the message broadcast and the action of painting were heavily persecuted and many "messengers" were arrested and imprisoned for this. Committed and ephemeral messages, erased by the authority shortly after making them or destroyed with the demolition of the wall or building, which have been perpetuated thanks to the interest of Francisco Ávila.
Francisco Ávila (Madrid, 1956), out of personal interest and concern, dedicated himself to photographing throughout Spain the graffiti on political, social and opinion issues that in the 1980s filled public walls and walls of abandoned buildings. It preserves a file of around 400 negatives and, for the first time, has revealed this interesting exhibition that collects the political and social memory of some key years in the history of Spain. 20.5 x 30.5 cm (each)
