Kenny Sharf. Fiat Panda customized 2019

"Fiat Panda customized". “Many people think that art only belongs on the walls of museums and galleries. I think it should be everywhere." Kenny Scharf

Representative work of one of the facets that has made Kenny Scharf world famous, car customization. During the UNIVERSALIS exhibition, promoted by the New York collector Lio Malca and held at Fundación La Nave Salinas in Ibiza in 2019, the car we presented intervened and has remained in the same collection ever since. His customized cars are highly sought after pieces in the international market.

Kenny Scharf, a Californian artist, is one of the main representatives of pop surrealism that emerged in the interdisciplinary artistic environment of New York''s East Village in the 1980s. Along with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, he became a close friend and who shared Andy Warhol as their mentor, Sharf is considered one of the most influential artists of our time.

Scharf expresses his art through any medium and in any space, public or private, whether walls or customizing all kinds of objects, including cars and planes, this last discipline has made him famous worldwide.

Influenced by television, advertising and cartoons, his works often include pop culture icons and cartoon characters such as the Flintstones, the Jetsons, the Simpsons, or caricatures of the American middle class in apocalyptic science fiction settings.

In 1980 he began with his facilities known as Cosmic Caverns that also functioned as endless parties. The first, Cosmic Closet, was an installation in the apartment he shared with Keith Haring in Times Square. Together they presented at The Times Square Show exhibition a 6-minute video titled The Sparkle End, branded Collaborative Projects. During the 1980s he held important exhibitions and in 1985 he was selected for the Whitney Museum biennial in New York.

From this moment his career took off and he exhibited all over the world in prestigious international galleries such as Galerie Bruno Bischofberger in Zurich or Akira Ikeda Gallery in Tokyo, Hammer Museum, Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles, MOMA in New York, Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, among many others. His works are found in important private and institutional collections around the world.
