"Still life with fruits and a bird". Oil on canvas.
This work is one of those that in 1978 were wrongly attributed to the artist from Granada Blas de Ledesma (Act. 1602-1614), by Ramón Torres Martín. The related bibliographic data is detailed below:
TORRES MARTÍN, R. "Blas de Ledesma y el Bodegón Español". Madrid, 1978. Cat. No. 69. P. 111 and 181. Rep. B/W.
Subsequent research links most of the works included in the aforementioned catalog to an anonymous Majorcan artist who worked on the island in the mid-17th century. The production of this artist was, in general terms, of a higher quality than that of Ledesma. It was an author with a certain regional leadership, whose paintings could have been exported to the peninsula through Valencia. Generally, they are compositions of a large scale and show many fruit elements, as well as strange birds that perch on them.
