The work of Lance Letscher (1962, Texas), is composed of hundreds of fragments of letters, books and images meticulously placed and glued to create their own three-dimensional illusion.
Lance Letscher''s creative galaxy is made up of the use of print, clippings and images appropriate to advertising contexts. His creation process was reflected in the documentary “The Secret Life of Lance Letscher” presented at the SXSW Film Festival in 2017.
“I follow color, line and perspective to create movement in the composition. The expressionistic qualities come later - not in a conscious way. Through collages, I let myself be carried away by what I have at hand -.” Lance Letscher, Modern Painters, November 2017
In the 1990s he left conceptual sculpture to dedicate himself to the collage technique and began collecting old papers, books, magazines and old notebooks, which he found in thrift stores and junk dealers.
At the age of 56, Lance Letscher is still producing from his native Texas. His work has been interpreted on numerous occasions as a balm against anxiety, finding in the gesture of cutting, disassembling and relocating, a way for the artist to fight his demons, after his father''s suicide.
His work has been recognized by numerous American critics such as Charles Dee Mitchell or the Director of the Museum of the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, Brooke Davis Anderson. 160x100cm
