Marten van Valckenborch was a leading Flemish Renaissance artist who worked in the second half of the 16th century. Born in Leuven, Belgium, he was trained in the local artistic tradition, then traveled to Italy to hone his skills. Van Valckenborch is known for his ability to create detailed and elegant landscapes, and is considered one of the first artists to use aerial perspective in his compositions. His work has influenced many other artists and is highly regarded for its impeccable technique and artistic sensibility. Many of his works are in public and private collections throughout the world and are considered a valuable part of the artistic heritage of the Renaissance period.
