Maud Earl (1864, London, United Kingdom - 1943, New York), was known for her delicate and realistic portraits of dogs and animals exotic. Due to its realistic and sketchy style, it enjoyed great popularity among some prominent figures of the animal-loving nobility such as Queen Victoria of England or Alexandra of Denmark.
Heiress to a saga of painters, Maud Earl devoted herself to painting from an early age, beginning her studies at the Royal Female School of Art in London. Despite the unusualness of being an independent woman painter in Victorian times, she had a career outside the established social canons.
After World War I, he settled in New York City, where his work can be found in collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
It is not difficult for us to imagine that such an outstanding painting as German Shepherd and Parrot the artist will become part of the collection of Doris Duke (1912, New York - 1993 Beverly Hills, California) great heiress to the American Tobacco Company, philanthropist and protector of animals. 119.5 x 144.8cm
