Lot: 894
Roman sheepshead 1st BC

Complete panel or plate in lead from one side of a Roman sarcophagus, its surface decorated with patterns embossed in relief in 3 friezes or horizontal registers. Floral motifs and vegetable garlands (flowers, vines, bunches of grapes, ivy leaves). Iconographically it can be linked to the representation of the seasons of the year, with their corresponding fruits, a theme that became popular in this period. This corresponds to the Greco-Roman vision that every living being is integrated into the eternal cycle of nature. It has slight flaws on the edges, caused by the passage of time but in good condition. Rome. S. II AD. 172x45cm
