A Pair of Chinese Porcelain Dishes, c. 1850

Pair of small plates made of blue and white Chinese porcelain, probably for the Mexican or North American market. Qing dynasty, c. 1850 or later. Decoration formed by an eagle with open wings that holds two arrows with one of its claws, under an illegible motto. Reverse stamped "yongxing" which means "eternal prosperity". 14cm in diameter.

A larger plate with similar characteristics can be located at:

D. S. HOWARD and J. AYERS. "China for the West". London and New York: Sotheby Parke Bernet, 1978. Cat. no. 521. P. 512. Rep. Col.

This publication indicates that the plates with this design could have been produced to commemorate the union of the State of New Mexico to the United States of America in 1850. It is suggested that this design could having been obtained from an embroidered work or even from the State flag. 14cm in diameter
