"Egyptian limestone relief of enthroned figure, 6th century BC (Saite Period)". This decorative fragment was made from a calcareous stone from the Tura or Massara quarry. It has been extracted from a larger block of cladding. Its irregular trapezoidal shape, as well as its patina, indicate that the right part of the block was cut in antiquity. It is entirely treated with the incised bas-relief technique and, although there are no appreciable remains and pigmentation, it must be assumed that it was originally painted. This was part of a funerary chapel belonging to the tomb of an army general. Its typological characteristics place it in the XXVI Saite Dynasty and it represents a tiny sample of the wealth and sumptuousness of the tomb in question, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of this period. The scene represented is full of symbolism, with a male character sitting in an armchair in the center of attention, holding a glass of ointment in his left hand (the equivalent of current liquid perfumes, they were a producer consumed by the upper social strata). and they were kept in translucent alabaster containers, which on many occasions had the name of the ointment stored inside engraved) and a blue lotto, while the right hand holds the lid of the glass. Before the character we see a richly worked table, with its upper part finished in a ruff. On the table, three blue lottos with intertwined stems. Behind the furniture part of a female figure, richly dressed, can be glimpsed.
Very good state of conservation.
