Have clay horse. China. 206 BC-AD 220

Large horse, made of terracotta, composed of three separately modeled parts; the head, body and tail of the animal. Due to its style and lack of polychromy, it can be classified as a production from the Sichuan province in the Han period (206 BC-220 AD). Characteristics of this region are the funerary sculptures that represent elegantly upright horses like this one, as well as other animals -dogs are among the most common- and figures of men and women performing daily activities such as preparing food or playing musical instruments.

This equine is presented with the right front leg half raised in a marching attitude and its head rigid looking forward. On the muzzle you can see, in a sketchy way, the halter or muzzle. The teeth and lips are very well defined, in a neighing attitude. The ears are erect, between which descends a thick and long hair.

Reassembled from large fragments, all original, with restoration on the break lines. These types of figures, given their dimensions, are never preserved intact.

Termolunescence certificate issued by Oxford Authentication Ltd. and certificate of authenticity issued by Empyrean Fine Chinese Antiques are attached.

The Han dynasty ruled China for more than four centuries during which China''s political, social and economic structures were consolidated, which will lead the country to the most glorious stage of its history. Regarding art at this time, it continues to be eminently funerary, although it reflects the very high artistic level that will be reached both in the capitals and in the provinces. These preserved objects provide us with information about daily life and customs of the time, as art becomes much more mundane than the bronzes of the Zhou and Shang eras. The structures of the tombs are also changed: the Shang were vertical while the Han will be built as underground palaces. They were decorated with reliefs stamped with scenes from the life of the deceased and a new material was incorporated as an artistic support: lacquer. 122x110x28
