Phoenician wine storage amphora

"Phoenician terracotta amphora for wine storage, 800 BC". Container with an oval body, very short neck, semicircular handles that are grasped at both ends of the shoulder. The beginning of the wine culture has its origins in the Phoenician people, who were pioneers in its export. Thanks to their excellent management of trade by sea, the Phoenicians were the main supplier of wine to the old Egyptian empire, as well as exporting to Greece, Italy and other Mediterranean shores.

Very good state of conservation.

Provenance: old Israeli collection, acquired in 2008. 34x24cm
