"Roman gold ring, S. II - III AD". The anthropocentrist concept of Ancient Rome led to the development of arts parallel to the common ones such as sculpture or architecture, in addition to the importance of marking the social and economic status, the Romans wanted to surround themselves with luxury and precious materials. Jewelry is born from the need to beautify the body, to enhance the human figure and its value, to seek beauty through the perfection of forms. Men used to wear seal-shaped rings and women. Solutions in terms of goldsmith techniques are increasingly sophisticated, specializing in filigree, joining threads, in this case gold, forming closures, material effects and various decorations. Although Roman jewelry initially stems from Greek influence, it soon distanced itself by creating its own designs, including pendants, earrings, and cameos. Decorated with a magnificent cut of nicolo, a type of onyx with a black background and bluish surface, this ring is a highly prized piece for a wealthy person from Ancient Rome.
