Roman ceramic askos 300 AD

"Roman ceramic askos, 300 AD". This piece is an askos, a ceramic vessel that was used to contain and pour small amounts of liquid, especially oil, since the lamps were filled with them. Normally they contain a handle at the top and a spout at one end. This is especially curious as it is shaped like a ram and has a ceramic pattern.

Very good condition.

Provenance: English private collection, acquired in 1973.

Attached is the thermoluminescence test made by the Oxford laboratory in 1981.
