Attributed Gil de Siloé. Virgin with child. 15th

"Madonna in majesty with the Child". Sculpture made of carved, stewed and polychrome wood.

The Virgin is seated with the Child on her left knee, both holding an open book. Dressed in the traditional Flemish manner of the XV century.

The piece presents restorations and slight faults in the polychromy. In addition to possible repainting, although it retains a large part of the original stew.

The iconography, the clothing, the hieratic attitude and the actual work of the carving and the stew link the piece with the Flemish sacred productions of the last third of the 15th century. Many teachers came to the peninsula in order to participate in the companies of the great temples that were being built at that time. This was the case of Gil de Siloé, who worked mainly in the northern area of Castilla, leaving numerous examples of religious sculpture.

Documentation related to the carving is provided from different European museums linking the piece with the work of Mechelen and the production of flamenco masters in Spain.
