Origin: Family of the artist

Carolina del Castillo is, along with Julia Alcayde, a precursor of Asturian female painting. Born into a bourgeois family, she took refuge in painting in her adulthood, after the death of two of her children. He trained, in a first stage, with the painter José Nicolau Huguet and occupied a prominent place in the Asturian artistic panorama of the first third of the 20th century. In 1914 the family moved to live in Madrid where he met and worked with Cecilio Pla. Carolina's works from this second stage reflect the influence of her teacher. They are paintings of great chromatic richness, impressionist technique, application of paint directly using the tubes and impetuous brush strokes.
