Cervantes. Don Quixote of La Mancha. 4 vols.

CERVANTES SAAVEDRA, Miguel de.- "LIFE AND FACTS OF THE INGENIOUS HIDALGO DON QUIXOTE OF LA MANCHA" London: J. and R. Tonson, 1738. Smaller folio, full skin with nerves and shingles on the curdled spine. Scuffs, open hinges. 4 vols. Toasted paper. Palau 52010: "First edition in the original language published in England, and the first of a luxurious character and of artistic value. The text corrected by Pedro Pineda is very careful, because apart from having the best current editions in view, it seems that he also certified the Cuesta''s primitive paintings. The portrait of Cervantes, the work of Kent, conforms to the self-portrait written by Cervantes himself in the prologue to his Novels. The 68 plates were drawn by Vanderbank and G. Kent, and engraved on copper by Vander Gucht, Vertne, Baron and Claude de Bosc".
