"Set of preparatory drawings for "Don Quixote"". ORIGINAL DRAWINGS AND STATE PROOFS FOR THE EDITION OF DON QUIXOTE MADE BY GABRIEL DE SANCHA IN 1797-98
Set of preparatory drawings for the illustrated edition of the work by Miguel de Cervantes "El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha" edited by Don Gabriel de Sancha in the years 1797 and 1798. Together with other engravings for "The works of Persiles and Sigismunda", and two original drawings by Antonio Carnicero for book fronts.
-14 original drawings by Agustín Navarro for the edition of Don Quixote, made with pen and gouache, each of them signed: with the anagram AN, Agn. Navº, Agus. Navarro or A. Navarro. Each one is accompanied by at least one proof of the printing of the engraving, some state proofs. All, except one, bear at the bottom the placement annotation in the edition of the work. The drawings have an average size of 141 x 100 mm. The engravings 139 x 99 mm.
-In addition to the engravings that accompany the original drawings, another 20 engravings for this edition of Don Quixote, each one with a handwritten annotation of the time with the location it has in the publication (part, volume and page).
-An original drawing by M. Camaron for the edition of Don Quixote, with the proof of the mirror-effect engraving. Measure 139 x 98 mm.
-Engraving drawn by Josef Ximeno, and engraved by JJ Fabregat, for “La Galatea”, edition by Antonio Sancha, 1784, and signed by Josef Ximeno.
-Original drawing by Josef Ximeno made in gouache, with two stamped proofs, engraved by Mariano Brandi. Drawing: 143 x 99 mm.
-Two original drawings by Antonio Carnicero: A portrait of Seneca, drawn in gouache, and signed by the author, used as frontispiece for the edition of “Practical tragedy and observations…” by D. Antonio de Sancha, 1778. A portrait of Francisco Cascales used as frontispiece for the edition of “Tablas poéticas”, by D. Antonio de Sancha, 1779, together with a print of the engraving made by Moreno Tejada.
-Six engravings of "The works of Persiles and Sigismunda", drawn by Josef Ximeno, and engraved by Moreno Texada, Diego Díaz and Joaquín Fabregat.
-Together with 12 other engravings from other editions of Cervantes'' work.
