Egyptian granite head sculpture

"Egyptian granite sculpture of royal male character head. New Kingdom, ca. 1400 BC". The ancient Egyptians were great creators of iconography. They used to represent themselves both in sculptures and in paintings, seeking the preservation of their image as well as their names. The sculptural representation is one of the most chosen since it was not accessible to the entire population. This sculptural fragment, made of granite stone, is select since granite is a stone with magical solar connotations, so the character represented denotes being chosen. As for the representation, we will find him with a dense wig crowned by a ureus or royal cobra, which denotes his position in royalty as pharaoh or holder of power. His face is archaic and friendly, with very well preserved features.

Provenance: European private collection.
