"Cypriot terracotta 'Bilbil' jug, ca. 1400 BC". Elegant Cypriot terracotta Bilbil jug with wide spout and flared lip. It presents a prolonged handle with triple division that starts at the top of its high neck. Both the body and the neck of this beautiful jug are decorated with white stripes that show some wear in the lower area until reaching its wide and rounded base. Archaeologists invented the name of Bilbil for these beautiful, generally small containers (they rarely exceeded 25 cm in height, as is the case) because this word had a difficult correspondence in Western languages. Such denomination was coined since such containers made a sound similar to "bil-bil-bil" when emptying. These types of vessels appear profusely in the Late Bronze Age as a Cypriot import. Regarding its function, although there is no consensus, it must have been used for precious liquids; In some cases, the analysis of the residues inside a bilbil jar have shown that it contained a kind of opium extract.
Very good state of preservation.
