This painting shows the portraits of the parents of General José Azcárraga and Marcelo Azcárraga (José Azcárraga y Ugarte and María Isidra Palmero y Berzosa), two of their sisters and the Filipino nanny.
Juan Arzeo was one of the first painters in the Philippines to work with
oil paint. He lived in Fernando de Dilao (now Paco) in Manila. A painter mainly of religious themes, he produced large works for churches and monasteries, portraits of saints "San Antonio de Baylón" (1836) and "María Magdalena", and leaders of the Philippine church such as "Archbishop of Manila Fray Juan Zulay Bay" and "Fr. Manuel Blanco".
His work is represented in the Royal College of Filipino Augustinian Fathers in Valladolid, in the section of the Oriental Museum.
