"Portrait of Mª de la Concepción Luque Álvarez". Oil and tempera on canvas. Signed on the back Julio Romero de Torres, painted in oil and tempera. Beautiful gilt wood frame.
Date of execution: 1925.
This painting was commissioned by the Illustrious Doctor D. Enrique Luque Luque born in Córdoba on May 3, 1899, as a wedding gift to his future wife Mª de la Concepción Luque Álvarez, also born in Córdoba. In the words of Dr. Enrique Luque himself: “Her beauty and sympathy impressed me so much that I wanted to perpetuate them in this portrait as a wedding gift. The family of Romero de Torres was united by a brotherly friendship. We don''t know why Julio said, are you the daughter of Emilio Luque? I didn''t imagine you were like that. Days
after Julio himself explained to me: "Marriage for a woman is unknown.
You see that I have put her engagement bracelet on her and that is why she is pensive on a serene afternoon through the Cordoba countryside. Tell me honestly, do you like it? A lot, but I think my girlfriend is even prettier. To which Julio Romero replied "I cannot paint what you see in it".
