"Byzantium-Paleochristian terracotta brick or tombstone, S. IV - V AD". Paleochristian art emerged at the dawn of the Christian religion, during the Roman occupation. An art that lives in its hidden beginnings, on many occasions persecuted. The bricks, made with manual molds for subsequent firing, could contain a mark or seal, on many occasions it was simply the mark of the workshop, or as in this case a religious design. These bricks were used in the form of tombstones to cover Christian graves. In this brick we see a mark of a smaller and square mold, in which we can see the main emblem of paleochristian art, the chrismon. The chrismon is an image made up of the initials of Christ, X and P, a sacred emblem that was used in the occult and persecuted art of the early Christian era. In addition, this chrismon is accompanied by two other Christian religious emblems such as the dove, symbol of peace and the Eucharist, and the spike, symbol of the resurrection.
