Harpocrathes roman lucerne

"Roman terracotta lamp with Harpocrates, Anubis and a pharaoh, 2nd century AD (Roman period)". Oil lamps, also called lamps or skylights, are used by various ancient civilizations, from prehistoric times, through the ancient Egyptians to the present day. The skylight is a container filled with oil from which a wick is placed on a ledge that is lit, bringing light to the home. Many theories suggest that in addition to being used on a daily basis in homes, they could also be used in funeral rituals. Among the materials used as fuel, the most common was olive oil, although mixtures of fish oil with animal entrails, oil with crushed nuts and even other types of oil such as castor oil were used. While dry vegetable fibers or wicks made of animal hair used to be used as a wick. The skylights are one of the best archaeological evidence that we have regarding Roman excavations. This lamp, with a rounded shape and magnificent details with a scene of Harpocrates, Anubis and a pharaoh.
