Griffin Master. San Cristobal

"San Cristóbal". Oil on panel. Carved and gilded wood frame, 19th century.

Provenance:

- Private collection.

Baptized as Master of the Griffin by Elías Tormo in 1932 based on the attribution of the San Vicente Ferrer Altarpiece from the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia. According to Lenadro Saralegui, the way of representing male characters is repeated in other works such as the Dispute with the Doctors of the parish of Santo Tomás. Present in outstanding collections such as the Serra de Álzaga collection or the Montesinos collection, the name of Pila del Maestro del Grifo is still discussed, being related to Miguel del Prado (active in Valencia between c. 1515-1537).
