Mary Stuart. A late 19th, C Dieppe ivoryi

"Mary I Stuart": Precious ivory carving made in Dieppe (France). Around 1880. Represented as the famous "Opening Virgins", typical of Dieppe, she appears dressed in the style of the 16th century, with a beautiful dress adorned with enamel cabochons simulating precious stones (rubies and emeralds) and finely carved motifs of fleurs de lys , fruits and intertwined leaves. The head covered with a complicated headdress, typical of the time, like the lace ruff that surrounds his neck. The lower part of the dress, when opened, forms a triptych in which the wedding of Mary Stuart with Francis II is represented, carved as a true miniature. Collectible piece of exquisite work.
