Egyptian terracotta mask 1400-1300 BC

"Egyptian sarcophagus mask, New Kingdom, 1550-1069 BC". Funeral masks served more than one purpose in Ancient Egypt. Head protection was one of the main concerns during this process. Thus, a face covering helped preserve the head, as well as providing a permanent substitute, in an idealized form that presented the deceased in the image of an immortal being, in case of physical damage.
