Egyptian funal mask. 1070-332 BC

"Funeral mask. Egypt. Intermediate Period-Low Period. 1070-332 BC". Egyptian funerary mask made with clay and straw on which stuccoed linen has been applied with red polychrome on the face and black and white on the eyes and eyebrows. Serene face with slightly pursed lips and large almond-shaped eyes. Holes appear where the wooden blocks that joined it to the sarcophagus went.

Piece of great rarity with few known parallels due to the materials used. The vast majority of the funerary masks were made of stuccoed and polychrome wood or cardboard.

Austrian private collection. Acquired at Sotheby''s Parke Bernet in New York, May 4, 1973.

Notable material losses in photography and stable cracks on back. Excellent state of conservation. 25cm
