Terracotta Phoenician oinochoe S. VIII BC

Phoenician terracotta oinochoe, 8th century BC, made of red painted terracotta with a long neck ribbed at its base and three decorative protuberances. It has an elongated handle, very beautifully decorated on the upper part with a horse''s head, probably representing the Hippocampus, a Phoenician mythological animal with the upper half shaped like a winged horse and the lower half shaped like a fish.

It comes from the American collection, New York, 2017.
