"Escena pastoril". Oil on canvas. Signed and dated (1656) in the lower left corner.

Dutch painter and engraver. He entered in 1616 in the Guild of Saint Luke in Haarlem. He was a socially well-known figure, a member of the city's Civic Guard on three occasions. It is believed that he was a student of Esaias van de Velde. He is a relevant author between the mannerism of the end of the 16th century and the naturalism of van Ruysdael. Together with van Goyen he was one of the pioneers of the tonal landscape. He collaborated on occasions with Frans Hals. His work is preserved in: Louvre Museum, Rijksmuseum, Metropolitan Museum, Getty Center, etc. 96,5 x 139 cm
