Greek terracotta relief 400-300 BC

"Terracotta Greek relief, 400-300 BC". The ancient Greeks were great sculptors, precursors of the sinuosity of the human body and of the contrapuntal postures that give the body movement and wonderful theatrical stability. This relief depicts a woman dressed in a chiton that also covers her body from behind, in the wind, while she is held by a man, perhaps assimilated to the god Eros, who appears on his knees.

Provenance: old Swiss family collection, acquired in Munzen and Medaillen in 1969.

Bibliography: Antiquities, London. 09/30/2014. Page 79, number 398. 14cm
