SAHAGUN, Bernardino de.- "GENERAL HISTORY OF THE THINGS OF NEW SPAIN" The original of which is kept in the Laurentian Medicean Library in Florence. International Book Club, 1994. Larger folio, guaflex with overcover., preserved in case ed. 3 volumes reproducing the manuscript. Limited edition numbered copy. The execution of the work is supervised by the Spanish Franciscan religious Bernardino de Sahagún, between the years 1540 and 1585, shortly after the conquest of Mexico by the Spanish. The codex is decorated with around 1,800 illustrations made by indigenous tlacuilos with European techniques. Perhaps more than any other, this work is the main source of information about Aztec customs before the Spanish conquest.
