An Egyptian alabaster canopic jar. 1060 - 664 BC

Canopic jar made of carved alabaster. Cover, marbled alabaster, in the shape of the human head of the god Amset. Canopic jars were used in Ancient Egypt to deposit the washed and embalmed viscera of the deceased. Later they were introduced in a wooden box or canopic box. This vase was used to store the liver, and it had to be oriented to the South. Egypt, III Intermediate Period. 1069 - 664 B.C. C.
