32 cards written and signed by Francisco Franco

Interesting set of 32 postcards addressed by Francisco Franco in 1913, during his first posting in Al-Latén near Melilla, to Sofía Subirán. They are prints with typical motifs from the beginning of the century, with a romantic aesthetic with images of children and young people. Some of them, following the customs of the time, are outlined, colored or with drawings added by the young lieutenant. All postcards are written and signed by Franco. Some were sent only signed, others with romantic texts in which she expressed her feelings.

Sofía Subirán (1897-1985), a military family, was born in Cuba. They soon left the island to go first to Malaga and then to the Canary Islands, before her father was sent to Melilla.

The 32 postcards that we present are the only ones that Ms. Subirán kept from the hundreds of letters she received ; As he commented in one of the few interviews granted, the then Lieutenant Francisco Franco sent him an average of almost three daily letters between February 6 and June 5, 1913. The rest of the correspondence was destroyed by Subirán in the sixties. as a sign of respect for the Franco Bahamonde family, and to prevent its dissemination.

There is a clear intimate progression in the tone of the messages: in the first and second postcards he signs his first and last name and says goodbye as a "good friend"; in the fourth he adds "this friend who loves you" and in the following ones signatures with only the last name are frequent, and farewells of the type "loving her very much, he greets you", "he greets you and really loves you" or "always count on the cariño de".

Lot of great value and biographical and historical interest.
