Lot: 127
roman clay cup

Roman terracotta cup, 200 AD, has a conical body that tapers at the base to a rounded shape. Mouth of 9 cm. diameter. Its sober and austere decoration combines different shades of reddish orange which gives it great warmth. The concentric circles inside point to the technique used in its manufacture using a lathe. The ancient Romans showed an unusual interest in wine. For them it was a product of first necessity, becoming a product of social differentiation, as well as an indicator of the wealth of those who drank it.

Very good condition.
