Canaanite bronze Baal idol. Middle Bronze age

"Canaanite bronze idol of Baal deity, 1730-1550 BC". Baal, the god of fertility, of crops, a god capable of producing crops and reproducing people. So powerful, that being the son of the great main god El, and of the goddess of the sea, he surpassed the power of his father, leaving him ridiculous. A powerful god, destructive as well as generating life, it was paramount to contain the god''s wrath and keep him content. The god Baal required certain cults. Always related to reproduction, his cult of sensuality and sexuality was associated within the temples, making almost a courtship, as well as to appease his anger, animal and human sacrifices were required. With this little sculpture we can understand the need of the people to adore this great god and stay safe from his wrath.
