"Soda Can Truck (1985)". Ink and pencil on cardboard. Signed in the lower left corner.
Provenance:
- Gift of the artist.
- Dr. JE Ollé, Barcelona
In the 80s, the restaurant El Internacional, owned by the artists Antoni Miralda and his wife Montse Guillén (friends of the current owner of the work) in New York served as a point of meeting of the artists of the moment. Among them Jean-Michel Basquiat, author of this work. It was in this restaurant where the work was exhibited until the place changed owners and it was given to Dr. Ollé.
Although the origin of the work goes back to when Dr. Ollé works in Haiti collaborating in ACTMON (Association for the Control of Tuberculosis in the Third World) as a doctor. After this experience, and on his return to Barcelona, he sent a postcard photograph to his friends of the restaurant in which Sadrak''s feet (a Haitian boy) could be seen with a brass truck that he himself had made with soda cans.
Jean-Michel Basquiat was fascinated with that image hanging on the walls of El Internacional that evoked his Haitian roots and led him to carry out this work.
This drawing was hung years ago in the corridor near Dr. Ollé''s office. Part of the profits obtained from the sale will go to the ACTMON association with which Dr. Ollé continues to collaborate. 19.6 x 24.6cm
