Lot: 848
olpe. 500 - 450 BC

Etruscan olpe made using the black-figure ceramic technique, attributed to the Monaco 883 group. Decorated on the belly with an image suggestively showing the silhouette of two men facing each other; a young, naked man, and an older man wearing a long chiton and wielding a cane. The scene is framed on the sides and on the upper part of the neck by various stripes of geometric motifs. Etruria. 500-480 BC

The olpe, like the oinochoe, is a tall-handled jug used to serve wine and was filled with the help of a saucepan that drank the liquid from the crater. 10" tall
