Alexander Blumenstiel He was a renowned New York lawyer. Born in 1843 and died in 1905 in New York, he dedicated himself to law, although he always had a preference for the musical world, being considered one of the top critics in New York City. He was a member of the Lotos, Criterion and Republican Clubs of that city as well as being an honorary member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History. At his home on 108-79th Streets he kept a large collection of works of art, musical instruments, and paintings that were auctioned the year after his death in Mendelssohn Hall under the direction of the American Art Association of which he had been an active member. This portrait was not included in the sale in which 207 works of art were auctioned, including "Patio de una casa en Madrid" by Mariano Fortuny and other important Spanish works as well as works by Gèrome, Laurens, Vibert, Reynolds or Boudin among others.
A copy of the report by Dr. Carlos González López and Mrs. Montserrat Martí Ayxelá is attached, in which they place this work in its best period as a portraitist. 90 x 74cm
