Rare roman lucern (Bayt Nattif)

"Rare Roman Terracotta Lucerne (Bayt Nattif) with Peacock Tail, 400 AD". The iconography of the peacock is typical of Christianity in the eastern part of the Roman Empire. It was an animal that was linked to women and the feminine and was a symbol of chastity and nobility. Empress Élia Gala Placidia herself was going to identify with this animal.

Very good state of conservation.

Provenance: old Israeli collection, acquired in 2008. 8x6cm
