Yemen funerary limestone

"Limestone funerary stele from Yemen. S. I BC-S. I AD". This stela fragment stands out among the types of stelae since it is made of alabaster, a more expensive and difficult-to-find material, which denotes the purchasing power of its buyer. This stele, sculpted in an incised way, represents an almost flat, geometric face, in which the nose stands out, which comes out directly at the same level as the forehead, on which we find the name of the deceased incised. The eyes, instead of recessed, in this one are characteristically semicircular in relief, with the ears and mouth only marked. Without any doubt, the strength of the matriarchal and powerful society of the Kingdom of Sheba still resides in this piece.

Good state of conservation.
