Greek ceramic vessel oinochoe

"Greek white painted ceramic “oinochoe” vessel, ca. 1050-750 BC". The oinochoe is a type of Greek vase that was widely used in antiquity. As its name indicates oinos (wine) and choes (jug), this container was used to pour wine, which is why it always has a wide body, a wide rim and a vertical handle to lift the container.

Provenance: Leto Foundation Severis, collection no. 2223. Acquired from Christie''s Kensington South, October 20, 1999.
